Wimborne Road
Artwork Proposals
Site
Originally the site of a glassworks and later the Conservative Club the new building will comprise a new purpose built social club larger that the original along with a five storey residential block of 40 new flats. The Artwork is to work with the development and, as the brief describes, unify the two distinct styles of the development.
The plans on the Poole Conservative Club Website show the interesting configuration of contemporary and welcoming buildings both with entrances at the front and rear. The club house has a distinctive curved wall on the facing the Wimborne road which is reflected in the landscaping along the front of the residential block.
The Artworks
After meeting with user groups on the 12 April it was agreed that the artwork could be positioned in the following places.
1) On the wall and around the entrance to the Club avoiding areas of possible signage above the door,
2) Integrated into the curtain wall glazing system to the stairwell facing Wimborne Rd.
3) The Railings at Ground floor level of the residential block facing Wimborne Rd.
4) A free standing piece perhaps integrating a seat at the north corner of the site on Wimborne Rd.
I enclose designs for options 1 and 2.Hhowever option 3 and 4 appear too expensive as relatively expensive foundations will be required to install any durable structures at that position resulting in reduced funds for other areas.
Inspiration
All ideas have come from an association with combining Poole’s wonderful sunlight and aspect with wave forms and using the colours from the vivid palate of the current Poole Pottery range. See Inspiration Sheet below:
